Summer is here!

Well summer has arrived in Iowa and we are loving it.   I have gotten back on my cleaning schedule,  so mornings are cleaning and laundry...and afternoons are for crafts, naps and playing outside.    We are trying to make this summer very fun.
I found a recipe for Puff paint on Pinterest,   Equal amounts if Elmer's Glue and shaving cream and a few drops of food coloring.   Stir until you get stiff peaks and them paint to your hearts content.   Takes awhile to dry,   but so much fun.
Mr. Blake in need of a haircut.
He is not a baby anymore...he is now his Daddy's mini me.
Summer evenings are great for family walks down the dirt road and taking time to pick the clover.
It is also the time for kite flying.       Hope you all are having a great start to your summer,   Stay safe.

A day at the state fair

Eric and I decided Piper needed a Mommy/Daddy day and so we left the duo with Nana and Grandpa and took Piper to the Iowa State Fair.    What a fun time we had.
I know people usually do not like pictures of themselves but I have to say I Love this one.   The colors are perfect(not editing needed) and it screams of excitement, fun and good food(a shrimp corn dog with sweet jalapeno glaze ~ heaven in your mouth) and to top it off it was taken by a cute little 4 year old.
You can not go the the fair and not see the butter cow,  a state fair tradition.
And of course it is fun to see all the big, beautiful fruits and veggies.   How many pies could you make out of this dude?
There is just something nostalgic about the lights of the fair at sunset.
Fair food ~ gotta love it.
There are over 60 food options on a stick...including a boiled egg on a stick.
Me and my sweetheart ~ another picy taken by Piper.
Cotton Candy ~ the best fair food ever!
We had a wonderful day and enjoyed our family time very much.

Family Vacation 2013

Last week we took a much needed family vacation to Omaha, Ne.  It was only four hours away from home so the trip was not too bad with three kiddos.  We had a great time and were not ready to  come home and face all of our daily responsibilities.
Rolling hill of Nebraska ~ Beautiful corn fields.
Picnic lunch at a park in Avoca, IA.   We had the most perfect weather,  warm but there was almost always a breeze.
Walking the Bob Kerry Pedestrian Bridge between Iowa and Nebraska.

Fun day at Omaha's Henry Doorley Zoo,  if you ever are in the area this is a zoo you must visit.  It was so nice and lots of things to see.  We did not have time to see it all.
Brenna and her Daddy riding the Skyfari ~ this is a sky lift that take you over some of the zoo.
Our three cutie after supper at Cracker Barrel.  One of Piper and Mommies favorite places.
We visited the The Durham Museum ~ the former Union Station.   Very neat place.   Here are Eric and Piper sitting on one of the original train benches.
Look at this cute little girl I found on vacation.
Of course we had to visit Farmall Land~USA.   Eric has talked about visiting this place for a long time and it just so happened to be on our way.   He was in red tractor heaven (and so was a certain 4year old.)
Blake seemed to enjoy himself too,  Brenna said "I think I will take a nap."
We had a great time and are already look forward to the next trip we can take together.

Small Wonders Wednesday

I think this little guy qualifies as a small wonder.  I was standing at the window and this little guy flew up and sit very still while I took the screen off and photographed him.   God's creations are so neat.
I don't have anything exciting for this Small Wonders Wednesday,  too busy.   Sorry I missed Friday and Mondays post but we were getting ready for and then at camp meeting.   I will try to have a report and so photo's of what we have been up to on Friday.   Until then keeping having a great summer.

Small Wonders Wednesday

As mentioned in my previous post we have been enjoying s'mores this summer.   Well that is thanks to a handy-dandy fire pot I learned how to make on Pinterest( where else do we find ideas).    We have talked about a fire pit and looked at them but we always talk ourselves out of one.    I ran across this idea on pinterest and knew this was the solution to our problems.
The idea I found was for table top fire pots,  I used the same idea only on a larger scale.   I took a terracotta flower pot I had, lined it with heavy duty foil added match light charcoal and Ta-Da a fire pot.   The nice thing was all I had to buy was the charcoal and it was on sale and had fuel saver discounts(Hy-Vee perks),  so it was a very cheap and easy project.    I do not have a great picture of it but I think you get the idea,  so nice when you don't want to spend a lot of money.    I am thinking about trying to find a bigger pot and see what would happen if you burned small pieces of wood in it,  so it would give off a little more heat.  This one is great for roasting things but it would be nice to have a little heat for some of our cool Iowa nights.   Well hoped you enjoyed seeing my little project,  I would love to know if you have been making any fun this summer.

Mommy Moments Monday

We are having so much fun this summer,  hanging out on our front porch and back patio, eating fresh fruits and vegetables, blowing bubbles, doing sparklers and hoping to get the pool set up tomorrow.   Last summer I was pregnant with the twins and was so sick summer is just a blur, so I am living it up with my little family this year and so far we are having a fabulous time.
I know I am partial but I think these three are pretty cute.
This little girl is loving summertime, her skin is getting darker and the hair is getting lighter.
Me and my love.   Taken by Piper,  thought is was pretty good seems how it was taken by a four year old.
S'mores what a yummy summer treat.   Check back Wednesday to see a new diy project.
